ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, COMMUNICATION AND DIGITAL MEDIA PROGRAM

ٌƵ invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor position in the Communication and Digital Media program beginning in Fall 2025.

AUR’s well-established program currently offers a BA in Communication and Digital Media, along with minors. The person appointed will contribute to the program's further growth by working closely with the program director to update the curriculum, teach and mentor students, and raise the program’s academic profile through an active program of scholarship and research or creative output.

Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in Communication, Media Studies, or a closely related field
  • Record of scholarly output
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level in an ٌƵ university context
  • A strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate level in a small-class environment with active learning techniques
  • Ability to contribute courses at the introductory level, core courses in our major, and electives in area of expertise
  • Ability to mentor students
  • Knowledge of course instructional technologies and online course management systems such as Canvas
  • Excellent oral and written English

Desirable Characteristics:

  • Expertise in the areas of global media, intercultural communication, and grassroots media practices
  • Experience with active and experiential learning

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in communication and digital media at all levels
  • Carry a nominal course load of six courses (18 credits) per year
  • Engage in service to the department and the university, for example, by contributing to program development and serving on committees
  • Advise and mentor students
  • Collaborate with faculty and students on initiatives that enhance the academic and cultural environment of the university
  • Develop and sustain an active research agenda that leads to publications in high-impact scholarly journals

The successful candidate will:

  • Collaborate with the program director in the development of an innovative, state-of-the-art program and curriculum (e.g., cooperate in joint degree programs with other departments, creation of new courses, field trips)
  • Attract resources (e.g., visiting professors, partnerships with companies, fundraising)
  • Engage in networking activity in Rome, Italy, and Europe
  • Organize and promote the program and its activities in coordination with the program director (e.g., admissions events, seminars, conferences, end-of-semester exhibitions, and occasional shows)

ADJUNCT FACULTY: SOCIAL & CULTURAL DIMENSIONS OF FOOD AND EATING

ٌƵ is looking for anadjunct instructorto teach the course “Social and Cultural Dimensions of Food and Eating,” which will form part of a graduate-level program in Food Studies, Policies for Sustainable Production and Consumption.

The course will meet for 45 contact hours from the end of January to mid-May 2025.

The learning objectives are:

  1. Frame and address food systems from a social and cross-cultural perspective
  2. Analyze the different individual and collective eating practices and meanings conveyed by eating patterns and their socio-cultural and economic determinants.
  3. Approach the study of the contemporary food production and consumption systems through a socio-anthropological lens encompassing the complexity of their global and local interconnections.
  4. Critically unpack the different contemporary foodscapes into their ontological, symbolic, social, political, and economic components to face the challenges of the food system.
  5. Identify and use the appropriate qualitative methodological tools to observe, collect, and interpret socio-cultural phenomena related to food and eating.

Required qualifications:

  • Excellent knowledge of English
  • Ph.D. in social and/or environmental and/or cultural anthropology, sociology, human and cultural geography.
  • Previous teaching experience.

Desirable qualifications

  • Previous teaching experience at the graduate level
  • Previous teaching experience with North ٌƵ programs
  • Professional experience

ASSISTANT PROFESSOR, FILM PROGRAM

AUR’s well-established program currently offers a BA in Film and a minor. The Program in Film is a generalist filmmaking program strongly anchored within a liberal-arts paradigm. Its unique curriculum utilizes a student-centered and project-based pedagogy. The person appointed will contribute to the further growth of the program by working closely with the program director to update the curriculum, teach and mentor students, and raise the program’s academic profile through an active program of scholarship and research or creative output.

Requirements:

  • MFA or terminal degree in Film
  • Knowledge and experience in writing, shooting, and editing film projects
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate level
  • Ability to mentor students

  • Ability to contribute courses at the introductory level, core courses and electives in production and/or post-production
  • A commitment to continual course and curriculum development and improvement

Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate courses in film at all levels, specifically in the areas of non-fiction filmmaking, experimental filmmaking, sound for film, or screenwriting
  • Carry a nominal course load of six courses (18 credits) per year
  • Engage in service to the department and the university, for example, by contributing to program development and serving on committees
  • Advise and mentor students, including advising senior capstone projects
  • Collaborate with faculty and students on initiatives that enhance the academic and cultural environment of the university
  • Continue to produce creative film work

Desirable characteristics:

  • Experience with (and contacts in) the Italian/European film industry in order to interface our program and students with the local/European industry, including the various funding and distribution structures
  • Experience in fund-raising or obtaining grants

Applications Support Specialist

The Position
ٌƵ is looking for an Applications Support Specialist to join their IT team to develop and support their software ecosystem. The Candidate will be responsible for servicing and managing a series of institutional software application programs in the realm of higher education and business operations. They will also be responsible for creating and monitoring integration processes and supporting users to resolve application related issues. The Applications Support Specialist should possess a high-level IT skill set and have a strong understanding of the principles of information systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and service key institutional information systems, including overseeing user access rights, data standards and data structures and monitor integration flows.
  • Create automated and customized workflows which may at times require building SQL Triggers and Stored Procedures.
  • Develop and implement change requests based on business and department needs.
  • Address integration issues and troubleshoot software and user errors.
  • Evaluate and develop the reporting requirements of the administrative offices across the university.
  • Create, manage, and enhance API processes for data extraction and mining.
  • Extract/upload databased on office and/or project needs.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation.
  • Participate in the implementation and support of new systems.
  • Contribute to improving services and solutions in relation to AUR’s general CRM strategy and information systems.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an IT related field or the equivalent in digital certificates.
  • A high-level IT skill set and knowledge of principles and techniques of system design and development. Must be autonomous in providing 1stand 2ndlevel support
  • A sound understanding of database concepts, data mining techniques and a strong knowledge of SQL.
  • Proven work experience with APIs and integration developer tools such as Boomi or Informatica Cloud.
  • At least 3 years’ proven work experience in a similar role with industryinformation systems (Examples of systems include Microsoft SharePoint, Business Central, Learning Management Systems, ERPs and CRMs).
  • Strong problem-solving skills, be able to engage in independent study of solutions to problems.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and the ability to work with large data sets.
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to explain complex IT related issues to non-IT users.
  • Advanced written and spoken English,must be able to hold conversation with native speakers
  • Demonstrated ability to work across cultures, value differences and have an inclusive approach.
